'The Good Divorce Guide'

The book will be delivered under plain cover to any UK address.

If you’re facing divorce, it can feel like the end of the world — and in some ways, it is. An entire chapter of your life is coming to an end.

The person you thought you’d be spending the rest of your life with will no longer be your partner.

Everything will be different, everything seems to happen at once — and if you’re lying awake at night worrying, please know you’re not the only one.
Dozens of questions may be spinning through your mind…

What does my future hold?

Will I be happy again?

What did I do wrong?

What could I have done instead?

Am I making the right decision? What if I can’t cope on my own?

How do I protect my children and my family?

Where do I even start, and who can I trust to look out for my best interests?
All those questions are perfectly natural and I want you to know you’re not alone.

Because, sadly, more than 50% of marriages in the UK eventually fall apart. It can be the most traumatic time in your life as things finally come to a head after months — and in some cases, years — deciding whether or not to stay together.

When you’ve finally made the decision to move on alone, you expect it to come as a relief… but instead, there are 1,001 things to worry about.
I’d love to be able to tell you divorce can be a breeze, but the truth is — there’s no easy way out.

Getting divorced is upsetting even under the best of circumstances, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Lean on your friends and family for emotional support — and let me help you take care of the practical challenges.

That’s what this book is all about. I want to reassure you you’re not alone, divorce doesn’t have to be as complicated and traumatic and confrontational as you may fear, and you can come out of it stronger and happier.

Divorce doesn’t have to be a war zone

Your divorce doesn’t have to be a war zone, despite the horror stories you may have heard from the media — or even from family and friends.

All you need is some guidance, some support, and a helping hand.
This book will guide you through the legal maze, and show you how to get the best outcome for you and your family — with as little heartache, cost, and drama as possible.

I’m Teresa Payne, and I wrote this book because I know what it’s like to be lost in the midst of divorce. I’ve been there.
In fact, my own divorce is the reason I became a lawyer. Now, my mission is to help others going through it.
Practical advice to guide you through the legal maze
I wrote this book to help you get the best possible outcome from your divorce, and move on to a bright future. I also want to lay to rest any myths you may have heard or believed about divorce. Unlike in the bad old days, you can arrange the end of your marriage with very little fuss and cost. In this book, you’ll discover:

• You’re not alone: how a good lawyer will help you avoid making mistakes — and get you the best outcome possible (without turning your divorce into a war zone)

• Where to start: all the information you need to start the divorce process — without making any costly mistakes

• How to deal with the money, funding, children, businesses, and families — and how to negotiate with your ex calmly and rationally so everyone gets the best possible outcome

• In Chapter 1, you’ll discover what divorce actually involves: you’ll discover just how much misinformation and rumour there is out there (so you can plan your future based on reality)

• How to pay for your divorce, even if you’re struggling (you have more options than you think, which you’ll discover in Chapter 3)

• Chapter 2 lays out all your options: you don’t have to go to court in many cases — and you can find a way to sort things out amicably (with a little help)

• Business owners MUST read Chapter 5: divorce can be fatal for a family business, so make sure you’re in the best position to protect yourself, your business, and your assets

• How to sort out your finances: Chapter 4 will walk you through everything you need to consider when it comes to protecting your assets, arranging pensions, maintenance, mortgages, and wills — and what you need to consider if you get married again

• Chapter 6 is all about children: how they’re affected by divorce and how you can make sure you put their interests first above all

• If you’ve suffered domestic abuse, Chapter 7 will show you’re not alone — and you’ll be able to read some of our success stories (you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve, even if it seems hopeless)

• What comes next: how to move forward and take the next step (and make sure you don’t make any costly or painful mistakes)

About the authors
Teresa Payne
Teresa Payne became a lawyer after she had to face her own divorce. At an already difficult time, her own solicitors charged substantial legal fees for a very poor service and very little practical advice.

She knew she could do far better herself — and qualified as a lawyer seven years later. Now, her mission is to help others going through separation and divorce.

She helps people navigate the legal and emotional maze, and helps them find a new life so they can start again. She wrote this book with Vanessa Gardiner and her Family Law Team to help you get the best possible outcome from your divorce, and move on to a bright future

Some of our great reviews

I wish this book had been around when I got divorced

When I got divorced, aged 27, I had no idea what to do, or where to turn. I was a mess — and I couldn’t even figure out where to start, let alone who to trust with this massive personal tragedy.

If this book had been around back then, it would have saved me a lot of pain, stress, and money. There’s never going to any such thing as a truly happy and stress-free divorce, I don’t think… but The Good Divorce Guide will help couples separate and build new lives with dignity and civility and a lot less stress and heartache.

It’s going to be the first thing I recommend to anyone going through divorce because I know it’ll help.”

A book that points a way for married couples to separate in a civilised, calm way

I wish it had been around when my mum and dad had got divorced or even when my dad got divorced the second time.

Thinking about it, I might just buy him a copy because his third marriage is pretty awful too... Seriously, this is a book that points a way for married couples to separate in a civilised, calm way in as painless, though not pain free manner as can be. That has to be a very good and noble thing.

Having suffered as a child just what an emotionally scarring experience acrimonious divorce can be, ANYTHING that can minimise the experience of pain, divided loyalties, guilt and anguish must be good.”
